2004 NALS Regional Service Medal Recipient
The Mid America Regional Lily Society (MARLS) awarded the North American Lily Society Regional Service Medal for 2004 to Hal Schrei.
Hal, along with his wife Dorothy, was one of the charter members of MARLS. He was our first Treasurer, and has served in many positions, including President. He has served very capably as the Show Chairman for many years.
Hal always has a friendly smile and hello for all the members, and encourages everyone to become more accomplished in the growing of beautiful lilies, shown by his ability to do so. He served on the Board of Directors of NALS for several terms, and kept our membership up-to-date of the National's happenings.
Hal has always entered many prize lilies in our shows, and is a consistent winner. He has opened their garden for tours and passes on his knowledge of how to grow beautiful lilies. An accredited NALS Lily Show Judge for many years, Hal recently stepped down because of failing eyesight. He also assisted Fred Winterowd in presenting Judges Training School.
Hal has presented slide shows to many garden clubs and other interested groups. He makes all aware of the ease of growing lilies and incorporating them into the garden.
Hal has always been a very reliable supporter of MARLS, always ready and willing to help where needed, very dependable, very organized and very much a leader. If a job needs to be done, you know you can count on Hal to be there. He is a very worthy recipient of this Award. Congratulations!
